Your Home and two locations to serve you
Most prenatal visits are done in the client's home. However, Katia also has two offices that are used for labwork, annual exams and well-woman check-ups. Her main office is in Las Cruces at Bonita Plaza and her other office is in El Paso, Texas. Katia is licensed to provide midwifery services in both New Mexico and Texas. Please let Katia know if you have a preference for your visit.Homebirth and Waterbirth
As a midwife since 1991, Katia offers a professional and personal birth experience. Many options are open to a home birth family including siblings and family present and actively involved in the process of the birth. Water birth is another special option that many home birth mothers enjoy. During birth, Water is your Friend. Homebirth includes prenatal care appointments, education during appointments, a lending library for clients, a guidebook on what to expect from the prenatal period of pregnancy, another guidebook on preparation for labor and birth and a third guidebook on the newborn and the postpartum period. Homebirth also includes care and support during the labor, birth and immediate postpartum, postpartum and newborn care up to 6 weeks, breastfeeding education and support.Laboratory Testing
All normal blood work and lab testing for pregnancy and well-woman care is provided in Katia's offices located in Las Cruces, NM or Anthony, TX. Please call if you are in need of a well-woman checkup or need some lab work done. If you need further evaluation by a physician, Katia can make a referral for you.Conception Planning and Fertility Issues
Katia calls this the Ultimate in Prenatal Care. If you have questions about fertility please set up an appointment with Katia so you can discuss some of your options regarding conception planning and fertility assistance. Early planning gives the best advantage to ensure a healthy baby. Any discussions or consultations are confidential.Healthy Mom, Healthy Baby Class - early pregnancy class
This class is offered for those early in their pregnancy. It includes nutritional counseling, prenatal testing, exercise during pregnancy, discomforts of pregnancy and other topics of interest to those who have just found out they are going to be parents. Couples are welcome. This class is especially designed for first time moms.CHILDBIRTH EDUCATION CLASSES
Katia has been teaching Childbirth Education classes since 1991. She teaches a Childbirth Education Course for first time families and a Refresher Course for those who just need some reminders. Katia covers the usual topics of preparation for birth, exercises, relaxation, breathing exercises, and preparation for the newborn as well as alternative topics such as homeopathy and herbs at birth and affirmations for birth. Many women choose midwives because of the the one-on-one care they receive. After a woman's initial visit, prenatal appointments are scheduled once a month up to 28 weeks, twice a month from 28 to 36 weeks and once a week from 36 to 40 weeks and more often if over 40 weeks. Katia has a lending library of books and videos available for her clients. In addition to the lending library, Katia has published Guidebooks on Prenatal, Labor and Birth and Postpartum that are given to all clients. Katia is on call and available by cell phone for clients at all times of the day or night.Individualized Nutritional Counseling
Katia's Masters in Public Health was in Maternal and Child Health and Nutrition. Once a woman is pregnant, she can greatly influence the outcome of her pregnancy through nutrition. It is one of the few things that can make the difference. Although exercise such as walking and swimming increase the chances of mom having a great labor, what kind of foods a woman eats affects the growth, development and future health of her child. Nutritional counseling is a service that is included in Prenatal Care.Weight Management
Okay, lets talk about the elephant in the room...weight. Many folks want to avoid the issues confronting women regarding weight, obesity and how women perceive their bodies during pregnancy and postpartum. As a caring, knowledgeable health coach, Katia is ready to assist women regarding their weight and learning the skills for a healthy lifestyle. Herbal and Homeopathic Care
Katia has many years of valuable experience using herbs and homeopathic remedies. She has a few products for sale and can refer to a clinical herbalist or a clinical homeopath as needed. She provides these services to her pregnant, postpartum and well-women clients.
Well-Woman Care
Individuals often call with the question, "What is Well-Woman Care? Well-woman care is simply health care for the essentially healthy woman. Katia offers annual female physicals, labwork, herbal and homeopathic care for women. Many women want a simple introduction to what is happening to their bodies. As women we face changes as a young girl with our first cycles and again as we mature and age with the last of our cycles. Katia offers individual support and blessingways for both stages. For those young women who are first starting their cycle there may be issues of discomfort, fear or simply a lack of knowledge. Katia offers classes for young women to help them understand the changes in their body. Some families choose to celebrate this coming of age with a blessingway or ceremony and Katia is able to offer guidance and suggestions. For those women approaching menopause or perimenopause many want to choose alternatives to medications available by allopathic doctors. Katia offers education, herbal and homeopathic support for the changes of perimenopause and menopause. Menopause is also the cause of ceremony and celebration as a woman embarks on once again, on another adventure and cycle in her life.
